This half day symposium will be a fantastic gathering of women AND men who want to learn more about advancing women in the local government profession. Sessions include:

Keynote Session: Why There Are So Few Women Leaders – Marianne Cooper, Ph.D.

Marianne Cooper, Ph.D., is a sociologist at the Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford University and will address the question, “Why there are so few women leaders” for the audience. She was the lead researcher for Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Sheryl Sandberg and is a contributor to LeanIn.org, a contributing writer to the Atlantic, and a LinkedIn Influencer. Her new book, Cut Adrift: Families in Insecure Times, examines how families are coping in an insecure age. She is an expert on gender, women’s leadership, diversity & inclusion, financial security and economic inequality. Dr. Cooper received her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley and lives in Silicon Valley with her husband and two young children.

Featured Session: The Balancing Act of Women – Liz O’Donnell

Award winning blogger and marketing executive, Liz O’Donnell will talk about the art of balancing not only work, family and home, but taking care of elderly relatives as well. She is the founder of Hello Ladies, an award winning website for smart, busy women and named one of the top 100 websites for women by Forbes and a Voice of the Year by BlogHer. Her new blog, Working Daughter, is a site devoted to providing support to caregivers of elderly parents and relatives. She is a regular contributor to The Huffington Post and Momsrising.org. Her writing has also appeared in The Boston Globe Magazine, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Tampa Tribune, PTO Today, Gatehouse Media and The Glass Hammer. Liz O’Donnell, a longtime marketing executive, is the author of Mogul, Mom & Maid: The Balancing Act of the Modern Woman and is the founder of SheStarts, which supports the growing pipeline of women entrepreneurs in Boston through networking, coaching and events.
